Upgrade R12.2 to R12.2.3   22 comments

In this post i will list out the steps for upgrading R12.2 to R12.2.3

Note:

If you are freshly installing R12.2. and downloading the stage from edelivery then you will get stardCD version 12.2.0.46, also  i would suggest you all to download startCD version 12.2.0.47 it includes lot of updates which will be helpful in reducing the R12.2.3 upgrade time. startCD version 12.2.0.47 is a patch with #17445880.

So when you are downloading the Media R12.2 Software,  you will get stardCD  12.2.0.46  from edelivery. In your downloads include new startdCD version 12.2.0.47 patch #17445880

1

Once you build the stage using buildstage.sh we need to update the Start Here DVD, uncompress the patch in the main staging area to overwrite the startCD directory.

unzip -o p17445880_R12_GENERIC.zip let the existing 12.2.0.46 get overwritten by 12.2.0.47 startCD patch

Now you must run the buildStage.sh script and select option 2. Copy new patches to current stage area from the Build Stage Menu:

Build Stage Menu
——————————————————
1.     Create new stage area
2.     Copy new patches to current stage area.
3.     Display existing files in stage TechPatches.
4.     Exit menu

Enter your choice [4]: 2

This will copy the latest technology patches to the shiphome. Failure to do this will cause the installation to fail during the Oracle Home patching phase.

If you dont download latest stardCD Patch 12.2.0.47 then as per pre-upgrade steps for R12.2.3 we need to apply below patches which are there in 12.2.0.47

  3. hi bala,
i got task in my project to upgrade our current EBS 12.2.0 version to 12.2.2. I am going through your blog since last few days to find out about R12.2 documents. Its amazing and really helpful.
I have installed R12.2.0 on Linux 64bit environment. The issue i am facing is with adop utility. Commands like adop phase=prepare or adop -status hangs and does nothing. After running these commands AD_ZD_PREP package body has become invalid now as well. Can you please guide me what to do?

    • Hi Shreyas,

What is configuration of your box?no. of cpu’s memory etc.

Did you check CPU and memory resoucres consumption during dop phase=prepare or adop -status also check whether any sql session is running in DB. Also check the respective logs in fs_ne top. If you did not find anything major i suggest you to raise an SR with Oracle.

      Bala

Quite useful to uncover some of the nuances of the new upgrade procedures.

  5. Hi,. I’m not a DBA and I was able to upgrade to R12.2.3 just by following your post. I am immensely grateful to you for this blog, thank you.

  6. when you are trying to recompile AD_ZD_PREP package body , what error are you facing?
    alter package apps.AD_ZD_PREP compile body;

and check “show errors” if doesn’t compile successfully and paste the error

    Thanks in Advance

  10. Hello! Can I still apply the pre-requisite DB, form & reports etc. patches, even after I upgraded to 12.2.3? Will it have any bad effects?
    Thanks in Advance

    • Please follow Metalink Notes, If the patches are meant as pre-req’s, definitely you should apply before your start version upgrades.

      • ahh thanks for quick response!

I have seen from metalink and there are new db patches needed to be applied which are not included here in your post. I have already upgraded to 12.2.3, can I still apply those even if i’m done with the upgrade?

      • When I did this upgrade there was no startCD 12.2.0.48, and other patches available. I upgraded using startCD 12.2.0.47. Yes you vane go-head and apply the latest patches.

  11. HI Bala,
Thank you very much for this upgrade documentation. This is very handy and the steps are in detail.

Do we need to apply any patches after upgrading our environment to R12.2.3 from 12.2.0?

    Please advise.

    Thank you,
    Pradeep
